Trip overview

This Basecamp trip provides the opportunity to gradually build up the skiing challenge by starting with lift based off-piste at Stranda Ski Resort, voted the country’s best ski resort for off-piste by the leading ski magazine in Norway, Fri Flyt. Our base in the region will be the Juvet Landscape Hotel and from here we’ll explore the remote Tafjord Moutain range. After a few days we’ll transfer by car to the Sagafjord Hotel and the chance to test those ski touring skills on the towering summits of the almost mythical Sunnmøre Alps high above Hjørundfjord. This is a perfect place to end the trip and possibly provide enough of a taster to come back and try our Haute Route Hjørundfjorden next time. The accommodation on this trip rivals the skiing for drama. If fjord hotels or stunning modern architecture is your thing, then the experience in these two hotels will be a real talking point when you get home.

Juvet Landscape Hotel

Juvet Landscape Hotel

Juvet Landscape Hotel is situated in the farmyard of Burtigarden farm at Alstad in the upper Valldal valley and was the first of its kind in Europe. Each accommodation "pod" is sensitively placed amongst birch, aspen & pine trees and glacial boulders. At Juvet, stunning modern architecture meets the raw beauty of Norwegian nature and age old tradition. This really is a hotel unlike any other.

The Sagafjord Hotel, situated on the shores of Hjørundfjord with stunning views in all directions is a beautiful hotel combining the old and the new. The log cabins here are actually old school buildings from the Valdres region of Norway transported and reassembled here log by log. After a long days skiing, standing on the jetty under a starry sky, gazing out over the still waters of the fjord, to illuminous snow covered peaks is a truly magical experience.
